The Reason for the Season

It is not about the presents underneath the Christmas tree,

It is the birth of Christ, the Saviour He will be.

It is the fulfilment of God’s promise, which He made with fallen man,

The expression of God’s eternal love that would redeem the human clan.

It is not about the man, who comes down the chimney after midnight,

It is the birth of the Son of Man, our battles He will fight,

The soul of our salvation, He died to set us free,

To reconcile man with God, at His name evils flee.

It is not about a place that has grand lights on the pine,

It is about the sacrifice He would be, His life for mine.

He was tortured and humiliated, yet he chose to bear the scars,

Cast upon Him was chastisement that should have been ours.

It is not about the Christmas spread that we await eagerly,

It is the birth of the Life giving Bread, that we receive so freely,

For whosoever goes to Him, will hunger no more,

And whosoever believes in Him will feel Living waters flow.
